Open source has never been more important, yet the foundations that make open source projects thrive are under pressure.
AI is changing the landscape, with new opportunities but also new challenges. Regulations such as the EU Cyber Resilience Act are adding to the workload. Cultural changes and economic cycles affect funding and corporate participation as well as contributions from individuals.
So how can we make open source - and Mautic - last?
This panel discusses the specific situation that Mautic is in, but also ponders the critical factors behind successful, resilient open source projects (even if far outside the mainstream), and how contribution and financial support can be developed for the future.
The goal is not to predict the future of open source, but to explore how we can help shape it :)
Sven Döring is Head of Data at VML Germany and an active contributor to the Mautic community. He works at the intersection of marketing technology, data strategy and digital sovereignty, helping organizations build more accountable customer infrastructure. In Mautic, he contributes to community strategy, marketing and Mautic World Conference. He is a member of the Mautic Council and leads the Mautic Marketing Team. .
Sīlavāpi is an Open Source advocate with over 20 years of experience using and contributing to many different projects.
Having served on the Community Leadership Team of the Joomla! project and built a full-service digital agency, she now works as Project Lead for Mautic, supporting the community who build and maintain the world's first Open Source Marketing Automation platform.
Sīlavāpi is also an ordained Buddhist in the Triratna Buddhist Order, a lover of cats, a keen triathlete and flautist (but not at the same time!) and is based in the East of England.

I’m part of Leuchtfeuer’s Mautic team, and thus work with Mautic every day: strategy and consulting, training teams, and scoping integrations with other systems. My background is in marketing, but over the years I’ve built up a solid technical understanding that helps me understand both sides and translate between them. I’m especially interested in marketing automation that’s technically sound and genuinely useful for marketers, not just one or the other.

His work spans marketing automation, email deliverability and infrastructure, from everyday campaigns to large-scale and unconventional Mautic implementations.
